An oasis of serenity in the historic center of Mérida, Casa Sapo is situated on an irregular lot near the Ermita de Santa Isabel, preserving the original facade and the first bay due to their heritage value.
The project transforms the density of the surrounding area through a central courtyard that connects the spaces and allows for a constant connection with the vegetation, light, and natural ventilation. Due to the dimensions of the lot, the design opted for vertical expansion, freeing up the ground floor to incorporate a tropical garden, a swimming pool, and a rooftop surrounded by vegetation.
The material palette combines masonry stone, wood, traditional terracotta floors, and polished concrete, creating a dialogue between the historic architecture, the intimate scale of the home, and the presence of nature.
