In Mérida’s Historic Center, Casa Azul was born from the desire to create a refuge for a family that lives outside Mexico but is in love with our country; as a result, the client asked that the character of a traditional home be preserved while adapting it to the needs of contemporary life. The project respects the essence of the original architecture, incorporating new spaces that maintain a constant connection with the courtyards and open areas. The selection of materials seeks to highlight Yucatecan identity through stone walls, chukum finishes, wooden millwork, and blue-toned pasta mosaics—elements that bring texture, color, and authenticity to every room. Natural lighting and ventilation are fundamental to the design, fostering cool and comfortable spaces. Casa Azul proposes an architectural style that engages with the site’s history, where traditional materials and contemporary solutions coexist naturally to create a warm, functional, and timeless home.
