“House of Troubadours”—the name says it all. Clients with a keen appreciation for design and space sought to remodel their home located in Mérida’s historic center. In addition to the everyday living spaces of a home, the architectural program called for a space to display their awards and instruments, areas for rehearsals, and a bohemian terrace from which to watch the sunset. The solution was to largely respect the existing zoning and the current use of the spaces, but with a different layout that would better take advantage of natural light and ventilation. An interior garden was created; spaces were opened up by demolishing walls; and the proportions of windows and parapets were adjusted to make the house appear larger than it actually was. On the rooftop, a pergola was designed to create the bohemian terrace.
